This was by all definitions one of the great romances. Two movie stars at the height of their beauty and careers met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Angelina Jolie was divorced. Brad Pitt was with Jennifer Aniston, a huge star herself, who, nevertheless, didn’t have a chance against the ambitions of a Capricorn Moon.
Brad Pitt is a Sagittarius with Sagittarius rising. But his unusual chart has a stellium in Capricorn which includes: His Moon, his Mercury, his Venus and his Mars. Four of his five personal planets. He’s very Capricorn.
A Venus/Mars conjunction is a twisted little thing all unto itself. It creates a confusing dynamic about sexuality and love. Do you want it? Or is it too much trouble? You can live without it. So should you? You could be gay or at least sexually conflicted.
A Capricorn Moon. There are just not sufficient words. It can be there pushing you forward at a crazy pace. A blessing. But the reality is, the Moon’s qualities don’t match Capricorn. The Moon is gentle and sensitive. Capricorn is harsh and aggressive. The person that it inhabits wages a battle from within that can’t be won. The desire for success versus contradictory destructive feelings. And what trips off the final battle? Happiness. Because the person with this aspect is never fully able to grasp the concept. And therefore can’t stand seeing other people enjoy it. There’s a pervasive edginess. Pitt told Vanity Fair he couldn’t remember a day, “since I got out of college when I wasn’t boozing or had a spliff or something. Something… And I’m running away from feelings…”
Angelina is a Gemini Sun/Mercury. Gemini is always too cool for school. It’s difficult to trick them. But they are excellent at tricking you. Her Moon is in Aries conjunct Jupiter/Mars. She’ll tell you the truth if you take the time to listen to her. If she can trust you. Her focal planets are Saturn/Venus. Ambition and not feeling loved or lovable. With Venus also being squared by four planets, there’s little faith in romance. Cancer, her rising sign, and can result in placing too much emphasis on family — going overboard on motherhood — to the exclusion of everything else. She has zero earth signs. No earth houses either which means material possessions mean very little. In fact, she might feel weighed down by them. They require maintenance and that requires time. She’s nomadic at heart. It’s not surprising she wears the same clothes. Having three or four outfits would suit her fine.
To solidify their relationship, Angelina and Brad bought a magnificent estate in France, Chateau Miraval, for 25 million euros. It was for their family: her kids who he would adopt, and their kids. So they could get away. Live off the grid. It was by all accounts, heaven. Brad revived the winery and made it profitable. They constructed. They decorated. Brad bought an historical desk — a piece of art for Angie’s office — a tribute to his supernova partner. He worked the land. She worked her charities. The kids had space to play and be themselves. As a couple, they hosted celebrated people including ironically Johnny Depp.
What could be their undoing? How could anything compete with this perfection? Brad woke up one day and realized that being around happiness hurt. Because he couldn’t participate. This would require him destroying it. Angie realized she couldn’t trust Brad with her feelings. He’s an alcoholic drug abuser. Big clue.
When Brad met Angie he had transiting Pluto sitting on his Sun. This doesn’t happen to everyone due to the slow motion of Pluto. But when it does Donna Cunningham describes it as, “The Pluto transit is the point at which change must occur; Pluto says, ‘It’s time.’” So Brad did the most difficult thing he had ever done — he fell in love — with the help of his predictive Mercury sextiling his Venus. Another confirmation that it was time. Also his predictive Venus was opposition natal Pluto — it wouldn’t be without mind blowing passion and emotionally threatening challenges. It was a deep dive. And what gave him the courage to do it? The heavy Capricorn influence that was constantly nagging him to bigger successes — like those a high profile romance would bring. A little insurance policy for the risk his Sagittarius Sun was taking.
Angie, at the same time, had only her predictive Sun square Mars. For most of us that would mean we’re not at all sure where we stand in the Universe. It’s an identity crisis that’s difficult to navigate. It’s a time many people have a break down. But Angie was on a mission to adopt kids from the third world countries she visited for the U.N. This is an excellent way to channel a difficult aspect. Do something for someone else. But still, it’s extremely negative. Regardless of how you handle it, you risk making mistakes. There was also transiting Pluto opposing her natal Venus giving her some, hesitation/warning.
And so these two people came together. One looking for love and the other looking to start a family. And there was all that chemistry. Or was there? Her Venus is in Cancer. His in opposing Capricorn. His Mars also in Capricorn squared her Mars in Aries. She has Moon in Aries. His Moon is in Capricorn. Another square. And even their Sun signs? Gemini opposes Sagittarius. This isn’t compatible energy. Or easy.
Now we come to the altercation on the private plane. Brad accuses Angelina of turning the children against him. Not a doubt in my mind that was happening. Very subtle, but the children were all along meant to fill an empty hole in Angie’s life. She didn’t want to share. Not really. And now her predictive Sun was squaring predictive Jupiter. It was getting to be too much giving. So many women would have been dazzled by the shear extravagance. The opulence. But Angelina wasn’t like other women. That’s why Brad picked her. She was crusading for human rights. He didn’t respect or understand her true values. Was Brad a self fulfilling prophesy regarding another man letting her down?
Brad had one of the worst charts of his life although it is interesting he had a positive Venus aspect. He wasn’t ready for the marriage to be over. But he was being challenged by his predictive Sun sitting right on Saturn. The definition of this is ruination. Without understanding it and working through it, it would bring him down. It was an existential crisis that brought up lack of abundance issues from his childhood that had been simmering throughout the relationship. His meager origins and her almost royal status in the entertainment community. And there was his hidden, even from himself perhaps, resentment of women in general. Don’t forget he tossed Aniston aside like a used Kleenex.
So he got dead drunk. And lost it. He choked and shoved his family while completely mind numbingly angry. She wasn’t appreciating him. The effort he was making. The vineyard in France. The children didn’t appreciate him. Were pulling away from him. Things he hadn’t dealt with came to a violent ending. He fucked up. Big time. Everything he thought he wanted? Wasn’t satisfying him? Therefore he destroyed it.
Brad came to his senses, buckled down and survived the holocaust of his own making. He sobered up. He rehabilitated his career. It was, after all, what was most important. Angelina and his kids could not forget, understandably, the terror that happened while trapped in the air. It didn’t help that later he would terrorize her with the fact her fortune was tied up in Miraval.
And this is where Brad’s true character showed. The plane incident was forgivable. It bubbled up from his subconscious. It exploded. He didn’t see it coming. It wasn’t pre-meditated. No one actually got injured. What came after? That was purposeful. That was pay back for exposing his childhood pain — his profound insecurities that being a world renown rich and powerful movie star couldn’t sublimate. He needed yet another notch on his belt. He needed for her to worship him, an abusive alcoholic. She refused to be that person.
As get back, he refused to treat her and his kids generously with class and integrity. Because that’s not who he is. And bottom line. She knew it all along. We always do.
And here’s the kicker. Had she been that person, Jennifer Aniston? Had she let down her defenses and loved him? He would have left her eventually anyway. He would still have pulled Miraval out from under her and the children. It was never for her. It was to show off. To prove his value. It was a tool in the narcissist tool kit. You can’t win with these people. They won’t allow you to win.
And now we have the downfall of a Capricorn Moon’s ambitions? Flying too high. Until your wings melt in the hot, hot Sun.
