A solar eclipse is when the New Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth blocking out the sun’s light and temporarily turning day into darkness. The one today, April 8, 2024 is 19 degrees Aries 24 minutes. While New Moons are a time of rejuvenation and renewed spirit, eclipses don’t have that hopeful explanation. This is from Lawrence Kamelgarn on Quora:
“According to Ancient people didn't really understand that the Earth revolved around the Sun and the Moon revolved around the Earth. Prior to Copernicus, most people thought the Earth was the center of everything, so they made up myths to explain both lunar and solar eclipses. The Vedic civilization of ancient India had a particularly interesting explanation for solar eclipses. All the Vedic gods were at a banguet, and they were eating Amrit, the food of the gods that made them immortal. Unbeknownst to them, a serpent had snuck in and eaten some of the Amrit. Immediately, he was cut in two, but too late, he was now immortal, and he became Rahu and Ketu, the moon's north and south nodes. According to the Vedas, a solar eclipse happened when one of the nodes started eating the Sun. Ironically, this isn't too far from the truth, because we now know that a solar eclipse can only happen when the moon is at its nodes, which are mathematical points in the sky.”
My experience with Eclipses is that something is eclipsed. But since of the 10 planets (astrology calls them all planets) the Moon is the least powerful, it won’t be a large loss. But these minor losses can be really frustrating.
It’s usually a small but potentially completely annoying event. It’s there and then it isn’t.
The effect of an eclipse is usually a week before and a week after and, here’s the big one, it has to hit your chart. This one is 19 degrees Aries 24 minutes. Generally the rule is you have to have a planet 5 degrees before or after. The classic eclipse is conjunct your planet or opposition your planet. But consider squares also. So for this event, you would need a planet between 14-24 degrees Aries (conjunction), Libra, (opposition), or Cancer or Capricorn which are squares.
I was having a party a long time ago and sent out invitations on an eclipse — which were all returned to me for the wrong postage. It was too late to send them again. The party got cancelled.
I went to another party on New Year’s Eve with an eclipse that night. I drank a small plastic glass of cranberry juice and vodka. I was so sick the rest of the evening I spent the entire party on the back porch.
And yet another example which happens too often is that you will break up with someone. But the good news is, more than likely, it isn’t permanent. Eclipses aren’t that powerful. They’re a great example of nature’s beauty and an even better reminder of our insignificance in the Universe. Just in case you weren’t feeling insignificant enough! Ha! I especially like the fact that Jupiter and Venus are also visible. These are truly the planets that bring us blessings and love. Enjoy!
