Astrologically, this one is easy. Progressed Mars in a negative aspect always pulls the rug out from under you -- in some way.

Maj. Nidal Malik Hassan is a Virgo with his Mars, Mercury and Pluto in Virgo. Mars conjunct your Sun can make you angry. Mercury conjunct your Sun can make you very opinionated. And Pluto conjunct your Sun can make you a control freak. Put those together, and you have a very dynamic person -- a force to be reckoned with. And when a lot of planets are in the same sign, the person becomes very focused.

Add to this progressed Mars conjunct Pluto and something very violent can happen. For most of us, this will mean we are in danger. But there are exceptions, and this is one of them -- where Maj. Hassan became dangerous -- killed 10 people and injured many more.

I promise you there were plenty of signs that he was in trouble. He was religiously a very strict Muslim -- looking for a wife who was even more religious. He was being deployed to Afghanistan and didn't want to go. Besides being a Major in the army, Hassan was also a doctor. This is a man accustomed to giving orders, not receiving them -- a man who has had to swallow a lot of Muslim criticism over the years.

Too bad the army doesn't use astrology to profile it's personnel. This type of man, put in this situation, with this extremely negative and violent aspect currently taking place in his chart has a very reasonable chance of flipping out. At the very least, he was a risky person to send to Afghanistan. He could also have gone there and killed innocent people.

If the army would give me the money, I could easily generate software that would warn when a soldier was in danger or dangerous. One day, I can dream.
